Marilyn Montoto was born and raised in Miami, FL by Cuban parents who experienced extreme hardships, but were able to turn their lives around once they settled in America. Art and music run in her family, which led her to make art and music ever since she can remember.
She is self-taught, and attended Miami Dade College to work on sharpening her skills by studying Voice Performance, Art, and Music Business. She has been the lead singer in various rock bands, and continues to work on various music projects while expressing herself through painting, which may give you an idea of the fire she has inside.
“I have been expressing myself through the arts ever since I can remember. As a child, I used to write my name on all the walls and furniture in rainbow colors! My mother didn’t appreciate it very much, but it felt normal to me. I saw everything as a canvas. I used to sing along to the Sound of Music at the top of my lungs, make drums out of cans, and pluck guitar strings for hours even though the guitar was clearly too big for me. Not much has changed!” – Marilyn Montoto
